No guiding suspended loads without a RiggerSafe®.
Distance should be engineered, not improvised.
RiggerSafe® is useful during crane-assisted tubular logistics and equipment positioning — specifically the final controlled phase of each operation, when the suspended load is approaching its landing point and hand exposure is highest.
| Rig Activity | How RiggerSafe® Assists |
|---|---|
| Loading drill pipe onto pipe racks | Guide the suspended joint laterally during final approach without holding it by hand. Maintain separation while the crane carries the weight. |
| Tubular transfer to and from the catwalk | Assist orientation while the crane or mechanised system carries the weight. Keep hands clear of adjacent pipe and the approaching joint. |
| Pipe lay-down operations | Guide the joint during its controlled final placement onto the rack or pipe support. No hand contact with the suspended section. |
| Casing and drill-collar handling | Maintain hand separation while positioning heavy tubular components. Casing joints and drill collars carry mass that makes hand-contact injuries high consequence. |
| BHA components and subs | Guide stabilisers, collars, crossovers and related equipment during crane-assisted placement — particularly during make-up preparation while components are still suspended. |
| Pipe-rack positioning | Push or pull a stationary or supported tubular into its final rack position without placing hands between adjacent pipes. Short-reach tool; operator outside the nip-point zone. |
| Cargo baskets on the rig deck | Guide and orient suspended cargo baskets during controlled landing. The same application that applies across marine operations — large footprint, unpredictable swing. |
| Mud pumps, motors and rig equipment | Assist final positioning of suspended maintenance equipment onto foundations or prepared landing points. Short-to-mid-reach tool depending on access geometry. |
| Tagline retrieval | Reach or redirect an approved tagline after the load has landed, without walking toward the suspended load or entering the fall zone. |
| Offshore supply transfers | Guide equipment arriving from supply vessels during final controlled deck landing. Same application as quayside operations — longer tool for maximum separation. |
Each diagram shows a specific crane-assisted operation, the hazard zone, and the RiggerSafe® reach that keeps hands outside it. The load remains crane-supported throughout. RiggerSafe® assists operators in guiding the load during final controlled positioning — it does not support or restrain the load.
These boundaries define the tool's function precisely. Understanding what RiggerSafe® does not do is as important as understanding what it does. Geometry governs behaviour — the tool must match the task.
RiggerSafe® is not the primary tool for making drill-pipe connections at close quarters. For close pipe-connection guidance at the rig floor, the HSF Drill Pipe Handling Tool or HSF Drill Pipe Connection Guide may be more application-specific. Professional judgement remains central to every lift and every tool selection.
These ten principles govern how RiggerSafe® tools are designed, specified and applied. They apply equally to the tool and to the operator who selects it.
Every active drilling rig runs crane-assisted tubular logistics. Every pipe deck is a deployment opportunity. The requirement repeats across every well programme.
