Where RiggerSafe® assists
on a drilling rig

RiggerSafe® is useful during crane-assisted tubular logistics and equipment positioning — specifically the final controlled phase of each operation, when the suspended load is approaching its landing point and hand exposure is highest.

Pipe lay-down operationsGuide the joint during its controlled final placement onto the rack or pipe support. No hand contact with the suspended section.

Operational Boundaries

What RiggerSafe® should
not be used for on a rig

These boundaries define the tool's function precisely. Understanding what RiggerSafe® does not do is as important as understanding what it does. Geometry governs behaviour — the tool must match the task.

Holding or supporting the weight of drill pipe. The load must remain fully supported by the crane, hoist or approved lifting system at all times. RiggerSafe® contacts — it does not carry.
Lifting one end of a tubular. Not for cantilever lifting, prying one end of a joint, or levering pipe off a rack or floor. It is a push/pull guidance tool, not a mechanical advantage device.
Arresting a swinging joint. RiggerSafe® assists in guiding a load during controlled positioning. It is not designed to arrest dynamic swing or absorb impact loading from a swinging suspended load.
Handling rotating drill pipe. Not for use near rotating tubulars — top drive, rotary table or any active drilling operation. The tool must not contact rotating components under any circumstances.
Working inside the iron roughneck, tong, slips or elevator operating zone. These are mechanised or high-energy operating zones. RiggerSafe® does not provide protection in these areas and must not be used inside them.
Guiding pipe while the top drive or rotary system is active. No tubular guidance task should be carried out while drilling systems are energised. This is a work-planning and permit requirement, not a tool limitation.
Replacing approved taglines or mechanised pipe-handling equipment. Approved taglines, iron roughnecks, pipe-handling arms and catwalk machines are the primary equipment for rig-floor tubular handling. RiggerSafe® is supplementary guidance for crane-assisted operations.
Allowing a worker to stand beneath suspended tubulars. The operator must remain outside the fall zone. The tool's reach provides the separation — it does not authorise entry into the zone beneath or adjacent to the suspended load.
Note — For Pipe-Connection Operations

RiggerSafe® is not the primary tool for making drill-pipe connections at close quarters. For close pipe-connection guidance at the rig floor, the HSF Drill Pipe Handling Tool or HSF Drill Pipe Connection Guide may be more application-specific. Professional judgement remains central to every lift and every tool selection.
