Every operation below involves a suspended load, a closing gap, or moving equipment. The hand moves in because the task demands it — until the tool changes where the hand needs to be.

Landing Equipment on Deck
Crane-lifted components approaching vessel decks require final guiding by hand. The moment the load nears the deck is the moment the hand is closest to the crush zone.

Positioning Pipes & Machinery
Pipes, motors, pumps and drive assemblies suspended and guided into position. The alignment point is identical to the pinch point — and the task requires the hand to be present.

Handling Steel Sections
Structural steel — beams, plates, frames — carries mass and momentum. Guiding by hand during the final arc is standard practice. It is also the primary exposure event.

Guiding Cargo Baskets
Cargo baskets and equipment skids approaching the quay or vessel deck have large footprints and unpredictable swing. The hand steadies what the crane cannot precisely stop.

Retrieving Taglines
Walking into the fall zone to retrieve a dropped or unreachable tagline places the worker directly beneath or beside the suspended load during the most uncontrolled phase of the lift.

Closing a joint between a suspended section and a fixed structure: the connection point is the pinch point. The hand goes in to align. That is where injuries occur.

Why a single shipyard requires multiple tools
One tool at a central store does not constitute a programme. Shipyard operations span multiple simultaneous workfronts — each with its own access geometry and exclusion-distance requirement.

Different docks and workshops
Dry docks, floating docks, fabrication shops and outfitting berths run different operations concurrently. Each location needs tools at the point of use — not signed out from a central store.

Concurrent vessel projects
Multiple vessels under repair or construction simultaneously means multiple independent lifting programmes running at the same time. A tool on one vessel cannot protect a worker on another.

Separate contractor teams
Shipyards run with mixed direct and contractor labour. Each lifting team requires its own tools. Relying on shared equipment across contractors is an operational and accountability risk.

Different working distances
A 21″ tool suited to a machinery-bay pump change is the wrong tool for a quayside basket landing. The correct length for each operation must be available at that operation.

Tools subject to impact or abnormal load require inspection and potential replacement. Operational continuity requires adequate stock at each workfront, not a single shared item.

A tool not immediately at hand is a tool that will not be used. Shipyard operations move quickly. Storage at the point of use — per berth, per team — is the only configuration that produces consistent deployment.
Critical Limitations
What RiggerSafe® is not
These are operational definitions, not disclaimers. They define the boundaries of the tool's function and must be understood before specifying or deploying.

Not a lifting device. Must not be used to lift, suspend, support, arrest, pry or carry load weight. The load must remain supported by the crane, hoist or approved lifting system at all times.

Does not restrain the load. RiggerSafe® assists operators in guiding the load during final controlled positioning. It does not prevent load movement and is not a tagline substitute for dynamic load control.

Does not replace certified rigging. Slings, shackles, hooks and lifting attachments must comply with applicable standards. RiggerSafe® is used during the final controlled positioning phase — after the lift is rigged.

Operator must remain outside the fall zone. The tool provides reach. The operator must use that reach to remain outside the fall zone as defined by the lifting plan. The tool does not authorise entry into the zone.

Not a pry bar or lever. Must not be used to lever, separate or force components that are pinched, stuck or seized. It is a push/pull guidance tool — not a mechanical-advantage device.

For controlled positioning only. Used during controlled load positioning and landing — not during active crane travel, dynamic swing arrest or emergency load-control situations.
