The Last 300 mm™

Every steel-mill hand injury
at a suspended load
happens at the same distance.

Close enough to guide the roll into its chock. Close enough to steady the coil as it lands. Close enough to align the spool before the crane sets it down. The task does not change. RiggerSafe® changes the distance.

The Doctrine

The crane carries the load.
RiggerSafe® controls the direction.

In a steel plant, every crane lift eventually reaches the same moment — the load is descending, a hand reaches out to guide it, and the worker moves inside the hazard zone because the task gives no other option.

RiggerSafe® does not remove that moment. It removes the hand from it. The crane still carries the load. The operator still controls the direction. Only the contact point moves — from the hand to the tool head.

The Last 300 mm Rule™
"The worker who guides a suspended load is always within reach of the hazard. RiggerSafe® is the length in between."
Steel-Plant Operations — Where the Hand Enters

The task gave the hand
no safer option. Until now.

  • 01
    Steelmaking & Continuous Casting
Ladle handling, tundish positioning, mould component replacement, and strand-guide assembly. Hot, congested environments where suspended loads must be guided into precise alignment — and hands are the default guidance tool.
  • 02
Rolling Mill — Roll & Component Handling
Work roll, backup roll, and chock changes across hot and cold strip mills. The roll enters the housing at close tolerance — guiding by hand is standard practice and the primary hand-injury exposure point in rolling-mill maintenance.
  • 03
    Coil, Plate & Billet Handling
Positioning coils on mandrels, plates onto beds, and billets into furnace entries. High mass, unpredictable swing, and tight landing tolerances. The hand steadies the load in the same zone where the load can crush the hand.
  • 04
    Maintenance Shutdowns
Motors, pumps, gearboxes, and drive assemblies lifted in and out of confined machinery spaces. Shutdown pressure compresses planning time and increases the likelihood that a hand enters where it should not.

Plant Rule
"No hand on a suspended load. No hand between load and structure. No hand inside the final landing zone."
Steel-Plant Operations — Continued
  • 05
    Fabrication & Structural Assembly
Beams, plates, and fabricated sections guided into position during crane-assisted fit-up. The pinch zone is the connection point — which is exactly where the worker's hand goes to align the joint.
  • 06
    Stores, Logistics & Despatch
Tubular products, coil and plate consignments, and structural sections loaded and positioned for despatch. Routine operations — which is why the hand-exposure risk goes unmanaged. Routine does not reduce the consequence.
Plant Rule — all steel-mill crane operations
No hand on a suspended load. No hand between load and structure. No hand inside the final landing zone. Use RiggerSafe® before the hand enters the hazard.

Tool Length Selection — Exposure Control by Application

Length is not a preference.
It is the exclusion distance.

21″ to 96″ (8 ft)
Three colourways
Custom lengths on request
Each length sets a different exclusion distance between the worker's hand and the hazard zone. Selecting the wrong length is not a matter of operator comfort — it is a failure to control the exposure distance. Choose the length that keeps the hand outside the pinch zone, crush zone, and final landing zone for that specific load and operation.
21″ – 24″
HSF-RS-Y-21
HSF-RS-B-24
HSF-RS-NG-21
Tight-Access Maintenance
Motors · Pumps · Small gearboxes
Confined machinery spaces where longer tools cannot operate. Short-reach close control for bench-level and machinery-bay lifting tasks. Sufficient exclusion distance for low-mass, restricted-access components.
36″ – 42″
HSF-RS-B-36
HSF-RS-Y-42
HSF-RS-NG-42
Roll & Chock Handling
Work rolls · Backup rolls · Chocks
Work and backup roll changes in hot and cold strip mills. The roll enters the housing at close tolerance; this length keeps the hand outside the roll-to-housing pinch zone throughout the seating operation.
48″ – 50″
HSF-RS-B-48
HSF-RS-Y-50
HSF-RS-NG-50
Plate, Beam & Fabrication Alignment
Plates · Beams · Fabricated assemblies
Structural fit-up and fabrication-yard assembly. Mid-length reach for precision alignment work — enough reach to hold the load off the pinch zone; short enough for accurate positional control.
04 / 09
Tool Length Selection — Continued
60″ – 72″
HSF-RS-B-60
HSF-RS-Y-72
HSF-RS-B-72
Coil, Billet & Large Component Landing
Coils · Billets · Drive components
Coils onto mandrels, billets into furnace runs, large maintenance components into position. Extended reach for high-mass loads with significant swing arc. Standard selection for open-bay crane-assisted landing operations.
96″ (8 ft)
HSF-RS-Y-96
HSF-RS-B-96
HSF-RS-NG-96
Heavy Lifts, Yard & Despatch
Heavy lifts · Tubulars · Structural sections
Maximum exclusion distance for open-bay heavy lifts, yard operations, and tubular-products despatch. Swinging loads and bulk-handling operations where the hazard radius is at its largest. The operator stands well outside the load's final arc.
Selection Principle
The reach is a control measure, not a matter of operator preference. Where there is doubt between two lengths, select the longer. The task remains equally controllable; the hand remains further from the hazard.

Colourways & Site Standardisation

Three colourways.
One part-number system.

Specified, not substituted
Reorderable by SKU
Custom colourways on request

RiggerSafe® is built to be specified, not improvised — a defined part number for every length and colourway, so the correct tool is ordered the first time and reordered identically on every subsequent purchase. Colourway selection is a site-standardisation decision: choose the colour that provides maximum contrast against your plant's dominant background surfaces.

Three Colourways — Select by Environment
Bright Yellow — HSF-RS-Y
5 sizes
21″ · 42″ · 50″ · 72″ · 96″
Maximum-visibility flagship colourway. Stands out against structural steel, mill scale, and neutral concrete surfaces. The first choice for open-bay rolling mills, fabrication shops, and despatch yards.
Steel-plant applications
Open mill bays · Fabrication yards · Plate and coil handling · Despatch and logistics
Industrial Blue — HSF-RS-B
6 sizes
24″ · 36″ · 48″ · 60″ · 72″ · 96″
The widest length range of the three colourways — six sizes from 24″ to 96″. High contrast against bright deck and structural surfaces. Preferred for precision alignment work where the tool position relative to the load must be visible at all times.
Steel-plant applications
Roll and chock changes · Machinery maintenance · Fabrication fit-up · Topsides structural environments

Neon Green — HSF-RS-NG
5 sizes
21″ · 42″ · 50″ · 72″ · 96″
Signal colour for enclosed process areas and confined-space maintenance — environments where yellow and blue do not provide sufficient contrast against existing equipment colours or where a distinct plant-wide colour code is already in use.
Steel-plant applications
Caster bays · Enclosed process areas · Pump rooms and utility spaces · Internal stores
Part Number Format
HSF-RS-[COLOUR]-[SIZE] — one part number resolves to one exact specification. Reorderable without re-specifying. Suitable for inclusion in your vendor master, plant materials register, or lifting-operations procedure.
Examples: HSF-RS-Y-96 · HSF-RS-B-36 · HSF-RS-NG-42 · HSF-RS-B-60

Steel-Plant Implementation Programme

From application audit
to plant-wide standard.

Five-step programme
Application to rollout
Reorderable by SKU
  • 01
    Application Audit
We review your plant's critical crane operations, lift types, and access conditions by department — rolling mill, caster, maintenance, fabrication, stores. Output: a map of hand-exposure points by operation.
  • 02
    Hazard & Distance Assessment
For each identified operation, we confirm the exclusion distance required and the appropriate length and colourway. This becomes the specification basis — not a catalogue selection.
  • 03
    Part-Number Specification
Defined SKUs per operation and department — suitable for inclusion in your plant materials register, vendor master, or lifting-operations procedure. Reorderable by part number without re-specifying.
  • 04
    Trial-Kit Supply
Initial supply of recommended lengths and colourways for operational evaluation. Supplied with documentation suitable for JSA and LOTO integration and toolbox-talk use.
  • 05
    Plant-Wide Rollout & Reorder
Standardisation across all departments with defined part numbers per zone. Reorder by SKU — no re-evaluation required unless the operation or access geometry changes.
Critical Limitation — Read Before Specifying
RiggerSafe® is not lifting equipment. It must not be used to lift, suspend, support, arrest, pry or carry load weight. The load must remain supported by the approved lifting system at all times. RiggerSafe® is a hands-off load-control tool — not a load-bearing rigging component.
